Our "Twinkle Toes" program is 45 minutes long, specially designed for our youngest dancers at Modern Rhythms Dance Academy. This class provides children ages 21/2 to 3 an introduction to dance and movement. Our children explore very basic ballet steps while also discovering music and rhythm and how the body relates to its surrounding space. The class includes creative songs, props, and hands-on crafts. Dancers get a fundamental dance education through various fun and imaginative ways. All students will perform one dance at the end of the year recital.
The "Funky 4's" program is a more structured class, one hour long, designed for our four-year-old dancers. In this class, they go deeper into the early fundamentals of dance. Basic tap steps, ballet positions, and very basic dance combinations are learned. Students start to develop coordination, musicality, balance, and self-esteem by dancing within their small class sized group. Only one form of dance will be performed at the recital.
This program is for our young students looking to merge their focus on an individual style. Dance terminology is taught while continually increasing technical skills. Dancers develop self-esteem and learn to be part of a group. Only one dance is performed in the recital.
This program is for our young students to merge their focus on a combination of tap and ballet. The most fundamental form of all dance styles, ballet is strongly encouraged for all students, especially the more serious students. Our ballet program enables the dancers to enhance their technical execution by working on both the barre and center floor. Ballet terminology is taught throughout all levels, as well as proper body placement and dance technique. Dancers will develop poise, flexibility, and grace while improving their progress in all other dance styles. Ballet is imperative to proper dance education.
America's favorite dance style, tap is offered to all levels and ages, including our adults! Tap enables our students to develop both musicality and coordination while focusing on the rhythm and sound quality of the feet. Students learn how to incorporate the feet and the ear while producing music of their own. At a more advanced level, dancers will explore acapella tap and different methods of improvisation.
Upbeat music and fast, fun movement! Our jazz classes contain the perfect combination of both dance technique and modern style. Jazz focuses on developing strength, flexibility, and body control by using floor exercises and center warm-ups. Jumps and turns are incorporated with creative jazz combinations.
The newest, most energetic form of dance, Hip Hop, is fun for everyone. This class incorporates popular "street styles" of dancing to the trendy music of today. Hip Hop dance is hard-hitting, involving flexibility and isolation; it's a more freeing, less-structured form of dance. Funky combinations are learned as well as across the floor and center warm-ups.
The most expressive form of dance, lyrical, focuses on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. Lyrical is a combination of jazz and ballet technique, while extensions, jumps, turns, and flexibility are all practiced. It is smooth and lucrative; the movement's connectivity flows effortlessly from one move to the next. Lyrical enables the dancers to express themselves and to tell stories through their dancing.
The most versatile of all dance styles, contemporary is a combination of both ballet and modern technique. Movements are limitless as they represent the dancer's emotions and innermost expression. Contemporary enables the dancer to use the body's natural lines and energy, which creates a more fluid, unconventional means of movement.
A jazz-based class filled with Broadway-style dancing and music. Our musical theater students dance to the most popular Broadway and Television musical soundtracks and learn to imitate the exact style of movement which is performed. This form of dancing build's the student's self-confidence while having a blast at the same time.
